Ban “conversion therapies”: sign the petition to outlaw these practices across Europe!

Some battles go beyond individual communities. They are about rights, freedom, and the respect of each person’s identity. One of these battles is the fight against conversion practices targeting LGBTQ+ people.

So-called “conversion therapies” – which are anything but therapeutic – are a form of psychological and physical abuse. Behind seemingly benign names lie real violence: mental manipulation, unethical medical treatments, exorcisms, family pressure, and fake “cures” aiming to erase someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. In other words, denying the right to be oneself.

The United Nations has classified these practices as a form of torture.

Yet, many EU countries still lack clear bans or effective protections for victims.

An official petition has been launched, calling on the European Commission to:

• Recognize conversion practices as eurocrimes;

• Prohibit their promotion, offer, and performance in any setting (medical, religious, educational, private, or public);

• Guarantee legal, medical, and psychological support to victims;

• Severely sanction those who promote or perform these practices, especially if minors or vulnerable individuals are involved.

The data is clear: 5% of LGBTQ+ people in Europe have been pressured to undergo conversion practices. Many more remain silent due to fear, shame, or isolation. But together, we can break this silence.
