Today, 17 January 2025, we celebrate International Fetish Day, an annual observance dedicated to supporting and raising awareness of the BDSM community worldwide. This day originated in the United Kingdom as National Fetish Day, first celebrated on 21 January 2008. Its main goal is to promote greater openness about sexuality and support the fetish community, while opposing laws that criminalise “extreme” pornography.
Perverts Wear Purple: A Symbol of Belonging
One of the distinctive traditions of International Fetish Day is the “Perverts Wear Purple” initiative. On this day, members of the community are invited to wear a purple garment, a colour widely used in BDSM circles, to show their belonging discreetly. This symbolic gesture lets enthusiasts recognise each other without compromising their “vanilla” identity.
Leather Club Roma: A Reference Point for the Italian Fetish Community
Leather Club Roma, founded on 20 January 1999, is a non-profit gay association whose aim is to develop and spread leather and fetish culture within the Italian and European gay community. Since 2001, the club has been a member of the European Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs (ECMC), the European federation of gay leather clubs. Over the years, Leather Club Roma has organised numerous events, nights and workshops to promote fetish culture, creating safe and inclusive spaces to explore one’s passions.
